{Yarn Along}

Well I'm sure you are all dying to know if I got Kate's sweater finished in time for Christmas. ;)

Yes, I did.  Sort of.  I was binding off as she came down the steps Christmas Eve morning.  She woke earlier than I expected (duh!) and so I told her to freeze and go back up stairs for a few minutes.  I still didn't have the buttons on nor all of the loose ends woven, but I threw placed it in a box and wrapped it up anyway.

Turns out, she has grown taller since I first took the measurements and her arms must be longer than the average 8 yo (she will be 8 soon).  I gave her the option of short sleeves or making them longer and she opted for short.  So I ripped them back (sounds so violent, doesn't it?) and made them short.  Then I added another 4 or 5 rows to the bottom to make it a bit longer.  And then I added the buttons last night.  There's nothing I can do about the bagginess.  She's just too skinny! :)  {Oh to have that problem!} It looks cute, but I haven't blocked it yet.  I've never done that before, so I'll need to look up again how to do that.

I thoroughly enjoyed knitting this pattern.  It is so detailed and well written for a first timer.  I don't think I'll try one again as a surprise though.  It was sort of fun, but it was also sort of stressful.

As for reading, I read The Language of Flowers while on Christmas break.  I saw it recommended somewhere, but I can't remember where.  It was very interesting and I didn't want to stop reading because I wanted to see where this story was going to go, but it was a sort of dark and strange story to me.  It did have a happy ending though.

Callie received Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens for Christmas so we are reading that together.  I'm really enjoying it and Callie wants to beat up most of the adults so far.  It's amazing that anyone ever thought it was okay to treat children that way!  I keep telling her "it's fiction", but we both know that similar things happened and maybe still happen in some places.  I've never read it before, so I hope it has a good ending.
