Summer Reading List

So far this summer I've read three totally different types of books.  First I heard that several Grace Livingston Hill books were available free on Kindle.  I vaguely remembered my mom reading those, so I was curious about them.  Since they were free, if I didn't like them, I wouldn't feel like I had to finish.

I downloaded two or three.  I started with Cloudy Jewel.  I really liked it.  It's good Christian fiction.  I believe the story took place in the 1920's.  It was nice to read a story where the men were chivalrous and the women were not weak at all, but still feminine.

Next was To Kill A Mockingbird.  I really enjoyed this book.  I definitely want Callie to read this in a couple of years.  It was kind of strange in that the first part is so comical and yet the second is so serious.  I highly recommend this one if you haven't read it.  The movie is very good too.

Loving the Little Years I just finished yesterday.  My first thought about this book is that the title is all wrong.  I had seen enough quotes and excerpts to know that it might be good for mothers of old children (not adult) and it was.  It's a very small book, but the author is very good at painting word pictures to her children to explain further either God's word or her expectations to them.  There are also some good reminders to mom's about what our behavior must be regardless of our children'.  If you have a couple of days to read through a helpful little book, this would not be a waste of time.

Next I think will be Kisses From Katie.  I heard about this young woman several years ago, but had kind of forgotten about it.  Then I heard she had written and book and I did something I don't think I've ever done before.  I ordered it from Amazon without even checking to see if the library had it.  I've read the first few pages and I don't think I will regret this purchase!   Callie and I will be reading this one together.
